It is run over a distance of 1 mile and is now known as the feature race of the whole of Glorious Goodwood so we are expecting another top field to assemble in 2010. Connections of Canford Cliffs are hoping that the ground does not come up too fast so punters wanting to back him should hope for some rain between now and then. Rip Van Winkle is also set to be back to defend the title he won last year for Aiden O'Brien and he is being well backed at the moment to do just that.

Sussex Stakes 2009 Result

The 2009 running looks to be extremely exciting with Rip Van Winkle likely to set off as favourite. He came in an excellent 2nd behind Sea The Stars last time out in the Coral Eclipse. Ghanaati is another with a great chance, she has won the 1000 Guineas this year as well as the Coronation Stakes

Rip Van Winkle took the running up early on and he never looked back to win the feature race of the day by some distance. Paco Boy stayed well but he and Ghanaati were outclassed by the winner who should go onto even bigger things.
