Glorious Goodwood Day TwoOn day two there is one of the highlights of the whole Glorious Goodwood festival the Sussex Stakes which is a Group One run over the Goodwood mile course and this is always a great race for the top milers aged three and over. The favourite will be the dual Guineas winner, Henrythenavigator, who will be looking for a Group One, four timer this season. It is difficult to see how he can be beaten, but Ravens Pass will not be short of effort and might get close. Also on day 2 is the Vevue Clicquot Vintage Stake which is run over seven furlongs and is for the two year olds.

This is to be themed as the Sir Peter O'Sullivan day in honour of his lifetime support to racing. A race will be named after him

In 2007, Day 2 last year at Glorious Goodwood The Hughie Morrison trained Secret Ploy win the Stayers Goodwood Stakes. Ridden by Steve Drowne, the horse was never really challenged and came home at 16/1. Godolphin got their second winner of the meeting when Frankie Dettori guided home the 8/13 favourite Rio de la Plata in the Group 2 in the Veuve Cliquot Vintage Stakes. The same team then won the Group 1, Sussex Stakes, with Ramonti, who ran an excellent race to head off Aiden O’Brien’s Excellent Art. Sir Michael Stoute finally got on the score sheet when Ryan Moore rode an excellent race to bring 14/1 shot Regal Flush home in the BGC handicap. Mark Johnston, who has such an impressive record at Glorious Goodwood got off the mark in the Weatherby banks Fillies Stakes, when his jockey Richard Hills brought home Fongs Gazelle at 12/1. Brian Meehan’s Fashion Rocks, ridden by Jimmy Fortune came home in the penultimate race of the second evening and the last was won by Laa Rayb, once again trained by Mark Johnston and this time ridden by Joe Fanning.
