Glorious Goodwood Day Two - Wed 29 July

Day Two is to be themed as the Sir Peter O'Sullivan day in honour of his lifetime support to racing. A race will be named after him
The Group One Sussex Stakes is the highlight of Day Two and often is contested by the top three year old milers in the country. It was won in 2008 by 2000 Guineas winner, Henrythenavigator after a very close finish with Ravens Pass. This year we are set for a battle between 1000 Guineas winner Ghanaati and Rip Van Winkle who whas 4th in the Derby in June. Paco Boy is also set to run and should also be in the shake up for the big race.
The day kicks off with the Goodwood Stakes, won in 2008 by Baddam with jockey, Johnny Murtagh on board. The Group Two Vintage Stakes for two year olds comes next a race which was won in fine style by Orizaba with Frankie Dettori in the saddle. The Sussex is next and is followed by the BGC Stakes, a race that is now dedicated to former BBC commentator, Sir Peter O’Sullivan, it was won in 2008 by Love Galore which gave Johnny Murtagh his third winner of the day. The Weatherby Bank Fillies Stakes race is the fifth on the card, won in 2008 by Spell Caster. Adrian Nicholls was on board Gower Valentine who was the winner of the sixth race of the day, the Maiden Fillies race. The final race of the day, the Classified Stakes was won by Firestreak with Richard Hughes the jockey.
