Glorious Goodwood Day One 2012

The opening day of Glorious Goodwood kicks off with seven races including one at Group Two level and two at Group Three. Jockey Ryan Moore was the star of Day One in 2008 with three winners and he will be sure to have some great rides once again in 2011.

The first race of the day is the Betfair App handicap Stakes, also known as the Heritage Handicap and is run over a mile and one furlong. It was won in 2008 by Gulf Express ridden by Ryan Moore. Next up is the Gordon Stakes a race over a 1½ miles, it is a Group Three race and is often used as a trial for the St Leger. Conduit, trained by Sir Michael Stoute won this in 2008 before going on to win the final Classic of the season. The win also gave jockey, Ryan Moore is second winner of the meeting.
The top race of the day however is the Group Two Betfair Cup over seven furlongs. This usually attracts a top quality field and was won in 2008 by Paco Boy, who has since gone on to win two Group One races. The fourth race of the day is the Molecombe Stakes a Group Three race for two year old fillies and won in 2008 by the useful Finjaan.
The fifth race is the listed Summer Stakes over one mile and six furlongs. It was won in 2008 by Sanbuch with Ryan Moore on board yet another winner on Day One. The two final races oof the day are the Tatler Summer Season Stakes over a mile, won last year by Soulacroix and the Turf TV Stakes which in 2008 was won by Gyr.
